The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) has praised the Nigeria Police Force for approving the release of two of its top swimmers, Corporal Collins Ebinga and Corporal Dorcas Oka, to represent Team Nigeria at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, taking place from July 23 to August 2.
President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, Lekan Fatodu, described the decision by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, as a powerful demonstration of visionary leadership and unwavering support for sports development in Nigeria.
According to Fatodu, the approval reflects the Police Force’s commitment to empowering its athletes to excel on the international stage while continuing to serve the nation with distinction.
“We deeply appreciate the Inspector-General of Police for this invaluable support and encouragement. His commitment to sports has once again demonstrated that Nigerian athletes can count on the backing of the Police Force as they pursue international success,” Fatodu said.
Recognising Leadership and Commitment
Fatodu also applauded the Inspector-General, himself a passionate sports enthusiast and accomplished judoka, for fostering an environment where police athletes can thrive and compete at the highest level.
He further commended the Chairman of the Police Swimming Association, DCP Bello, for his consistent dedication to identifying, nurturing, and developing swimming talents within the Nigeria Police Force. His efforts, Fatodu noted, have contributed significantly to producing athletes capable of competing at major international championships.
A Vote of Confidence for Nigerian Athletes
The Federation President described the release of Ebinga and Oka as more than an administrative approval, calling it a strong vote of confidence in the athletes and an important morale booster as they prepare for one of the world’s biggest multi-sport events.
He encouraged both swimmers to seize the opportunity with pride and determination.
“As you step onto the international stage, remember that you carry the hopes of millions of Nigerians. Compete with discipline, courage, and integrity, and strive to bring honour to the Nigeria Police Force and our great country.”
