With the countdown to the 2026 Commonwealth Games underway, the Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) has rallied the nation’s swimming representatives to rise to the occasion and make history on the global stage.

NAqF President, Lekan Fatodu, has charged Nigeria’s swimming quartet of Abduljabar Adama, Clinton Opute, Collins Ebinga, and Dorcas Oka to embrace their role as ambassadors of the nation as they prepare for the Games scheduled to hold in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026.

The four swimmers are currently undergoing their final preparations at a training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, fine-tuning their skills and building momentum ahead of one of the world’s biggest multi-sport events.

Fatodu praised the athletes for earning the opportunity to represent Nigeria through years of commitment, sacrifice, and hard work, urging them to compete with confidence, discipline, and determination.

“You are carrying the hopes and aspirations of millions of Nigerians. Beyond competing for medals, you are ambassadors of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation and our great nation. Let your conduct, commitment and performances reflect the true Nigerian spirit.”

Confidence Ahead of Glasgow Challenge

The NAqF President expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, noting that the Aberdeen training camp has provided the swimmers with the right environment to sharpen their abilities and prepare for the challenges ahead.

“We have confidence in your abilities and believe you have what it takes to win laurels for Nigeria. Stay focused, trust in your preparation and give your very best every time you step into the pool. The federation and the entire country are behind you.”

Fatodu added that the Commonwealth Games represent more than just a competition, describing the event as an opportunity for Nigeria’s swimmers to showcase the nation’s growing strength in aquatics and compete against some of the best athletes in the world.

Inspiring the Next Generation

According to the federation president, success in Glasgow would go beyond medals, serving as an inspiration for young Nigerian swimmers and contributing to the continued growth and development of aquatics across the country.

“Winning medals at the Commonwealth Games will not only be a personal achievement but will also inspire the next generation of swimmers and further strengthen the development of aquatics in Nigeria. Go out there, compete with pride and make Nigeria proud.”

As preparations continue, the Nigerian quartet will complete their training programme in Aberdeen before making their way to Glasgow for the Games.

With the support of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation and the hopes of millions behind them, Abduljabar Adama, Clinton Opute, Collins Ebinga, and Dorcas Oka will be aiming to deliver outstanding performances and further raise Nigeria’s profile in international swimming.
